Pinhurst Course No. 2 Converted to Champion

July 7, 2014

Following the successful conversions of No. 8 and No. 3 in 2013, the greens of Pinehurst No. 2 were planted today with CHAMPION Dwarf Bermudagrass.

The planting stock used for the project was harvested on July 4th at the Champion Turf Farms facilities in Bay City, Texas.  The sprigs were chilled to 36°F before being transferred into refrigerated vans for shipping to Pinehurst.

Kevin Robinson and his staff did a fantastic job of preparing the greens for planting and are to be commended for their hard work and dedication in accomplishing so much in such a short period of time.  Champion Turf Farm’s crews led by veteran foremen Jorge Torres and Ismael Castillio sprig-planted all 18 greens and two large practice greens working alongside the dedicated Pinehurst staff.  George Frye, Tom Green, and Mike Brown were all present to oversee the planting of the Champion sprigs.  Special thanks to Gary Myers with BASF who provided Lexicon fungicide for treating the planting stock and was on hand to observe the planting.

We are very excited to have our grass chosen for this venerable course and wish to extend our thanks to Bob Farren and Kevin Robinson for their hard work on this project and for choosing Champion Turf Farms to be a part of it.
