Introduction
EMERALD Dwarf Bermudagrass is a dwarf hybrid bermudagrass that was selected by Morris Brown in 1992 from a golf green which had been planted with Tifdwarf hybrid bermudagrass in the early 1970’s.
Applications: Putting greens, High quality tees, grass tennis courts

Mowing Height
Emerald Dwarf Bermudagrass performs best at heights of cut within the range of 1/8” to 3/8”.
Highest practical mowing height is approximately 3/8” to 1/2”.
Comparison To Known Cultivars
Compared to Tifgreen 328:
- Greater shoot density
- Greater rhizome development
- Darker green color
- Smaller leaf morphology
- Tighter internode length
- Fewer seed heads
Compared to Tifdwarf:
- Similar shoot density
- Similar leaf morphology
- Substantially greater rhizome development
- Substantially greater ratio of rhizomes compared to stolons
- Significantly deeper rooting depth
- Does not exhibit short day-length senescence (opening canopy in fall)
- Does not form a thick mat of stolons near the surface
- Similar seedhead production
Compared to Ultradwarf Bermudagrasses:
- Less shoot density
- Substantially greater rhizome development
- Substantially greater root mass and diameter
- Substantially greater rooting depth
- Does not form a thick mat of stolons near the surface
- Does not substantially restrict water infiltration into the rootzone
- Much less thatch production
- Much more tolerant of heavy vertical mowing
- Naturally forms a firm surface which is not prone to scalping
